On March 27, 2004 I was proud to welcome 20 friends to an extraordinary gathering: The Sake (酒) & Krake (蛸) Party. The special New year's omiyage of my friends from Okayama, Japan were the reasons for such a big occasion. A big 1.8l bottle of junmai-daiginjoshu Sake and a stack of more than 10 dried whole octopus slices are too much for me alone and too valueable not to share with best friends. To put those great gifts in their true light I arranged a long menue of Japanese drinks and food (see on the left side), featuring the Octopus and the Sake.

Two short presentations should have given a brief introduction to the two highlights of the evening:

  • "What is Sake?"
  • "How to distinguish octopus and squid?"

The sake was totally delicious and some of the guests were really surprised of the great taste. Fortunately the octopus - besides the dried slices, I also served 1kg of boiled octopus with salad - was also a topseller. Some of the other food wasn't completely authentic but already gave a good impression of the rich and versatile Japanese cuisine.

A lot of chatting and listening to music of Ayumi Hamasaki and Pizzicato Five completed the relaxing atmosphere. I really enjoyed the evening with the many friends here in Munich and mentally bound them to the friends in Okayama. Thank you everybody for a wonderful come-together, friends near and far.

Yours, MIKE.
