Weinfelder Maar

Over hilly and twisted roads we went through the Eifel. After an hour drive from Trier we reached the three Daune Maare, formerly simple lakes reformed by eruptions into volcanic lakes. Compared to the still quaky land of my Japanese friends the Eifel region is pretty calm, maybe already dead and safe. Gemündener Maar, Weinfelder Maar (Totenmaar) and Schalkenmehrener Maar are the big attraction around the town of Daun. [...]


Monreal
Our ride through the Eifel took us east to the tiny town of Monreal offsite about 8 km away from the small city of Mayen in the East Eifel. Many frame-work houses along a creek in a remote valley are making Monreal a wonderful target for tourists. But despite some of the residents we were alone on the crooked lanes.
